Description

The CQI-17 (Soldering System Assessment) is a standard developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group to assess and improve the control of soldering processes, particularly those used in the automotive industry such as wave soldering, reflow soldering, selective soldering, and manual soldering operations.

In accordance with the IATF 16949 and within the framework of specific customer requirements, this standard applies to all suppliers in the automotive sector that use soldering processes in the manufacture of their products, especially for electronic assemblies.

The aim of the CQI-17 assessment is to reduce the risk of failure associated with soldering processes, ensure the reliability, electrical integrity, and mechanical strength of soldered joints, and guarantee their compliance with the quality, safety, and performance requirements expected by automotive manufacturers.

This standard is part of a strategy for continuous improvement of special processes. It provides a structured framework enabling organizations to carry out self-assessments across several key areas: control of soldering processes, equipment capability and maintenance, management of critical parameters (such as temperature profiles, flux application, and solder quality), qualification and competence of personnel, and effectiveness of inspection and testing systems.

You wish to familiarize yourself with the requirements and best practices of CQI-17, as well as the self-assessment guidelines, in order to implement improvement measures aimed at ensuring the quality, reliability, and durability of soldered connections in your products.

  • To provide a structured understanding of CQI-17 requirements and assessment methodology
  • To enable participants to interpret and apply CQI-17 criteria in soldering  processes
  • To develop the ability to identify nonconformities and gaps in process control
  • To support preparation for internal and external CQI-17 assessments
  • To strengthen awareness of process control, risk management, and continuous improvement
  • Quality Engineers,
  • Process/Manufacturing Engineers or technical experts,
  • Internal Auditors,
  • Production Supervisors,
  • Specialists involved in the soldering

The teaching method alternates between theoretical sequences on the CQI-17 requirements and application through a case study on the technical aspects.

Knowledge test (Multi Choice Questions)

Consulting service: TRIGO can assist you with the practical implementation in your company. Contact us to find out more.

  • Have a PC with a microphone, a webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: background screens are available on Zoom or Teams to blur or hide the rear view.
  • Have a good Internet connection, to be tested before the session.
  • Be installed in a quiet, isolated place ; set yourself to “unavailable” status on Teams ; close your email access, and mute your phone, so as not to be disturbed during the session.
  • Participants from the same organization should not be grouped together in the same room, but each at his/ her own desk, to avoid any side discussions during the session. Virtual sub-groups will be specially created for the exercises, which will also enable mixed groups.
  • Remote qualification/certification exams must be taken with camera and microphone open. We may also need to check that you are alone in the room.
  • Please connect 5 minutes before the start of the session.
