The CQI-27 (Casting System Assessment) is a standard developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group to assess and improve the control of casting manufacturing processes, particularly those used in the automotive industry such as melting, pouring, solidification, and finishing of cast components.
In accordance with IATF 16949 and within the framework of specific customer requirements, this standard applies to all suppliers in the automotive sector that manufacture cast parts or use casting technologies in their production processes.
The aim of the CQI-27 assessment is to reduce the risk of failure associated with casting operations, ensure the consistency, integrity, and performance of cast components, and guarantee their compliance with the quality, safety, and performance requirements expected by automotive manufacturers.
This standard is part of a strategy for continuous improvement of special processes. It provides a structured framework enabling organizations to carry out self-assessments across several key areas: control of casting operations, equipment capability and maintenance, management of critical parameters (such as melting temperature, pouring conditions, solidification control, and cooling rates), qualification and competence of personnel, and effectiveness of monitoring and testing systems.
You want to understand the requirements of the CQI-27 manual and self-assess your casting processes or take a critical look at the self-assessments of your casting suppliers.
You want to develop an action plan to ensure compliance with CQI-27.
