Description

CQI-8 Layered Process Audit (LPA) is a structured shop-floor audit approach based on the AIAG standard and required by several OEMs, including Stellantis and General Motors.

Its purpose is to ensure compliance of critical processes by engaging multiple levels of management in regular audits, based on short, frequent, and standardised checks performed directly on the shop floor. This method allows for early detection of deviations and reinforces operational discipline.

LPA also supports the development of a continuous improvement culture and strengthens team accountability across the organisation.

With this approach, you aim to:

  • Enhance compliance with internal standards
  • Reduce quality issues and prevent customer complaints
  • Fulfil customer requirements related to LPA
  • Increase management involvement in monitoring and enforcing standards
  • Gain a clear understanding of CQI-8 requirements and automotive OEM-specific expectations
  • Identify the key success factors of the LPA approach
  • Understand the objectives and added value of LPA audits
  • Learn how to design and implement an LPA audit system adapted to your organisation
  • Develop practical skills in:
    • Creating LPA audit checklists
    • Performing LPA audits
  • Production Director / Production Manager
  • Area Manager, RUAP, workshop managers, supervisors
  • Production Engineer or support services engineer
  • Quality Manager
  • Internal auditor

The training combines concept presentations with group-based exercises focused on the key elements of LPA audits, including:

  • Implementation of LPA audits
  • Audit organisation and planning
  • Development of audit checklists
  • Set-up of the monitoring and follow-up system

Before the training:
A preparation phase is conducted between the trainer and a company representative to:

  • Understand the company organisation
  • Identify the different audit layers to be deployed
  • Define the scope and area to be audited during the session

During the training:
Participants will:

  • Define the target organisation for their LPA audit system
  • Create audit checklists for a selected area
  • Conduct shop-floor audits (on one or several workstations)
  • Refine and improve their checklists based on initial audit feedback

Assessment is carried out through a multiple-choice questionnaire, combined with trainer evaluation of the participant’s ability to apply the concepts and tools during practical exercises.
