Human Factors: understand and control their impacts and possible link with a Safety Management System (SMS) - #TM267

In industrial and aeronautical environments, human factors play a key role in product compliance and operational safety. Understanding these factors helps organisations more effectively identify the root causes of deviations, prevent risk situations and strengthen the overall safety culture.

Taking human factors into account also supports compliance with:

• the requirements of EN 9100:2018 (chapter 10.2) and ISO 9001:2015 (chapter 7.1.4)
• the recommendations of the RM13010 aerospace human factors handbook and FOD (Foreign Object Debris / Foreign Object Damage) prevention practices
• regulatory safety training requirements, including Part-145: 145.A.30(e), GM1 145.A.30(e) and PART 21: 21.A.139

• Understand the impact of human factors on product compliance and operational safety.
• Be able to identify situations where human factor-related deviations may occur.
• Analyse the causal chain linked to human factors and integrate these aspects into risk analysis.
• Understand and interpret the human factors requirements of ISO 9001 and EN 9100 standards, as well as the RM13010 recommendations, in line with SCMH guidelines.
• Interpret the regulatory requirements of EASA Part 21, Part 145 and SMS regulations.
• Adapt your organisation to effectively integrate human factors considerations and implement appropriate preventive measures.

• All employees who have an impact on the product: newcomers as well as the most experienced.
• Quality personnel, responsible for corrective and preventive actions and risk analysis.
• Managers and in-house human factors trainers.

• The training will begin with a video-based example to help participants immediately understand and become aware of the impact of human factors on product compliance and safety.
• This introduction will be linked to the relevant requirements of the ISO 9001 and EN 9100 standards, as well as the RM13010 recommendations, which will be presented and analysed during the session.
• The course will then introduce the main concepts and terminology, including the regulatory and normative context related to human factors.
• The training will progressively present the different types of human factors, structured by category, and supported by practical case studies to strengthen the acquisition of key skills.
• Finally, the course will focus on human factors analysis and the implementation of appropriate preventive and corrective measures.

• Have a PC with a microphone, a webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: background screens are available on Zoom or Teams to blur or hide the rear view.
• Have a good Internet connection, to be tested before the session.
• Be installed in a quiet, isolated place ; set yourself to “unavailable” status on Teams ; close your email access, and mute your phone, so as not to be disturbed during the session.
• Participants from the same organization should not be grouped together in the same room, but each at his/ her own desk, to avoid any side discussions during the session. Virtual sub-groups will be specially created for the exercises, which will also enable mixed groups.
• Remote qualification/certification exams must be taken with camera and microphone open. We may also need to check that you are alone in the room.
