PPAP/FAI management
PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) is a mandatory process in the automotive industry, and is designed to assess the manufacturability of the supplier to fulfill customer quality requirements.
FAI (First Article Inspection) is the aerospace equivalent of the PPAP and is also called initial quality control. FAI is focusing on the initial sample to determine whether the pre-defined production methods are resulted in an acceptable product by measuring the initial sample against given specifications.
Through various validation elements, both PPAP and FAI were designed to prove that engineering designs and specification requirements are completely implemented by the supplier, and that the given manufacturing process is efficient to fulfill the requested production rate.
